Red Oak Pink Out

RED OAK – The Red Oak volleyball team had a busy night Tuesday, as they honored their seniors for senior night, helped bring awareness to cancer research while taking part in the Race for the Cure’s Pink Out, and sealed their spot in a tie for third place in the Hawkeye 10 with a win over Lewis Central in four games.

The Tigers dropped the first game 22-25, with seven serving errors putting the team in an early hole.

After trailing 19-16, the Tigers fought back to win the second game, 25-21, giving them the momentum through the rest of the match.

Junior hitter Gabrielle French and senior hitter Brittany Walker led the Tigers to a win in the third game, dominating the Titans, 25-16.  French finished the game serving 14-for-15 with one ace and racked up 13 kills on 31 attempts.  Walker had three aces serving 16-for-19 and added 12 kills on 22 attempts.

Up 2-1, the Tigers fell behind to start the fourth game, 11-7. Senior Emily Pierson served nine consecutive points to give the Tigers a 16-11 lead, leading to the Tigers fourth-game win, 25-19.  Pierson was 19-for-20 from the service line with one ace and seven kills in the match.

Thursday, the Tigers won both of their matches, hosting Corning and Thomas Jefferson (Council Bluffs).

French led the Tigers with nine kills in the Tigers 25-19, 25-18 wins over Corning.  The Tigers had 11 serving aces in the game, led by Emily Pierson, who had six.

In their second match, the Tigers defeated Thomas Jefferson 25-20, 25-21. French picked up eight kills in the match, followed by the Pierson twins who combined for nine.  French also had three aces, serving 12-for-13 in the match. Rachel Pierson and Adrienne Mahoney led Red Oak with 10 and 12 assists, respectively.

On Tuesday’s game, the Tigers honored eight senior players and two senior managers.

The Pink Out event met their goal raising 1335 dollars and 65 cents for Montgomery County Race for the Cure and cancer awareness.
