Red Oak shut out at Creston, 48-0

CRESTON—The Red Oak Tigers lost in 3A football action Friday night to the Creston Panthers, 48-0.

Creston scored most of their points in the first half. Luke Neitzel had four passing touchdowns in the first half against Red Oak.

Neitzel’s first touchdown went to Briar Evans for 10 yards, early in the first quarter. Neitzel later threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Max Walters, giving the Panthers a 14-0 lead.

The next touchdown pass went to Alan Smith with 1:48 left in the first quarter for 10 yards. Creston led 21-0 at the end of the quarter.

Neitzel threw his final touchdown pass to Juwan Parrish for 30 yards, giving the Panthers a 28-0 lead following the PAT.

Neitzel also had a rushing touchdown, running one in from 14-yards. The lead was 35-0 with more than three minutes left in the half.

Creston scored once more with 15 seconds left until halftime when Adam Baker scored on a nine-yard run. The Panthers missed the extra point and the score was 41-0 at halftime.

To open up the third quarter, Creston scored once more when Alan Smith returned the kick 75 yards for a touchdown.

Red Oak’s offense managed just 33 total yards for the game, a season low. Nick Leinen had 13 yards rushing, while Seth Esaias had eight.
Jose Perez led Red Oak in total tackles with seven, while Leinen had six.

With the loss, Red Oak is 0-5 for the season and 0-3 in the district. Homecoming will take place this week for the Tigers as they face the Glenwood Rams.

The Rams will also be in search for their first win this season. Red Oak last defeated Glenwood in 1987.
