Red Oak track kicks off season at Glenwood

The boys and girls Red Oak track programs came into the season with questions both coaches wanted answered.

^{Tuesday in Glenwood, they got their first chance to answer some of those questions at the Hawkeye-10 South Division meet.}

^{Boys head coach Sueann French said the team showed her a lot, but there is still work to do.}

^{“I was very pleased with the effort the boys showed,” she said. “We have our first meet done, and now the boys know what to expect this season. We have a lot of work to do, and the boys know that.”}

^{One part of the boys team French was unsure about coming into the season was her distance runners, because so many good ones graduated the year before.} 

^{Team members Hayden VanMeter, Brock Isaacson, Rob Vial and Codie Bentley, the distance medley finished second behind Glenwood.}

^{In the 1600 meter run, Josh Baumfalk finished in fourth and Jacob Cashett finished in seventh.}

^{In the sprints Dylan Graber took sixth in, the 200-meter dash and Clay Selberg  finished in fifth in the 400-meter dash. The 4x100 meter relay team of VanMeter, Graber, Hunter Woods and Isaacson finished in fourth, while the 4x800 relay team of Bentley,  Ryan Dyson, Liam Eubank and Cashett also finished fourth.}

^{“As we get in better shape ,our times should go down by the time we hit districts,” French said.} 

^{Girls results}

^{The girls also participated in the meet. They finished fifth overall and had participants in most events.}

^{In the field, they got a good performance from Emma Ross, who finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 85’ 8’’, Maddie Wendtcame in 10th, Emily Peterson finished 19th, and Amanda Rodman came in 21st.}

^{In the shot put, Wendt threw 26’ and came in 12th, while Ross came in 14th, Kylie Pruett came in 21st and Rodman came in 22nd.}

^{Red Oak also had a good day with the long jump, with Sydney Streicher hitting a mark of 13’ 9’’, finishing in sixth and Juhi Boeye came in eighth with 13’ .75’’.}

^{In the 3,000 meter, Ashley Brower had a time of 13: 32.31, which was good for eighth, while Syndey Straw came in 10th with a time of 14:20.68.}

^{The relays did not go as well for Red Oak as they did at the indoor meet at Iowa State before the season.}

^{In the 4x800 meter relay, the team of Trinity Peterson, Macy Walker, Emily Peterson and Courtni Lindsay finished in sixth of six with a time of 13:15.52.}

^{The 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle team finished in fifth with a time of 1:22.49. The team includes Morgan Akers, Boeye, Paige Shirley and Streicher.}

^{The distance medley team of Taylor Carrick, Wendt, Ashley Crouse and Brower finished in sixth with a time of 5:31.37}

^{The 800-meter sprint medley was more successful, as Red Oak finished in third with a time of 2:05.44 with a team that consisted of Maysen Havener, Hannah Vial, Streicher and Boeye.}

^{Red Oak put two teams in the 4x100 meter relays. One of their teams finished in fourth and the other finished in sixth. The team that finished of Havener, Shirley, Streicher and Vial finished in fourth, the team that finished of Lindsay, Walker, Wendt and Trinity Peterson came in sixth.}

^{In the 100-meter dash Havener finished in sixth with a time of 14.23, Hailey Fadda finished in 17th with a time of 16.12. Cendy Lemus and Perla Hernandez finished in 25th and 26th with times of 17.94 and 17.99.}

^{In the 200-meter dash Alexis Wingfield came in 26th with a time of 36.20.}

^{Next up for the girls will be a meet Tuesday at Clarinda. The boys go to Clarinda on Friday.}
