Regional Volleyball Preview: 1A and 2A Semifinals

With 3A, 4A and 5A out of the way, 1A and 2A semifinal teams take to the floor Friday night, with hopes of playing in the regional final for an opportunity to go to state.

In Region 2 of Class 1A, the Stanton Viqueens travel to Corning to take on the Bedford Bulldogs in one semifinal match. The other semifinal features Woodbine as they host Ar-We-Va.

For Stanton, this will be the second time they play Bedford this season. The Viqueens defeated Bedford 2-0 at the Bedford Tournament Sept. 22.

The Viqueens haven't played Bedford in the postseason since 2010. Stanton won that match, which was the regional final. The win over Bedford led to the Viqueens making their first ever trip to state for volleyball.

Stanton was able to reach Friday's match by defeating Fremont-Mills in the quarterfinals 3-0. Bedford defeated Corning in the quarterfinals 3-1.

The winner's of the match will face off Halloween night in Atlantic.

In Class 2A Region 3, Griswold plays in the semifinals when they face the Treynor Cardinals in Treynor. Griswold made it to the semifinals thanks to a 3-0 win against East Mills Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.

Treynor meanwhile defeated Audubon in the quarterfinals 3-1.

This will be the second meeting between Treynor and Griswold this season. Treynor won the first match 3-0 Sept. 11 at home.

The winner of Treynor and Griswold plays the winner of Nodaway Valley and Des Moines Christian next Wednesday. The current location is set for Greenfield, but that could be subject to change if Nodaway Valley wins.
