Griswold golf had a solid week of results for both of head coach Chad Rodgers’ squads.The boys lost a very close match to Treynor Tuesday in which a fifth golfers score was used to break what was a 168-168 tie. The girls team lost to Treynor, which has the second best 2A golf team in the state.Griswold bounced back against AHSTW Friday by getting a win in both the boys and girls match.Tuesday, two Griswold boys were able to grab the two lowest scoring rounds of the day.Jake Reynolds took the medalist spot with a low score of 35, which included a birdie on the par five hole four. James Reynolds took the runner-up spot as he finished just a stroke behind Jake with a 36.Jacob Lewis also broke the 50-stroke mark when he shot a 45. Cory Steinbeck followed that with a 52 and Sam Dankert shot a 55.For Treynor, Nathan Hill hit the lowest score with a 38. Jayden Anderson was second on the team with a 42 and Kendrick Umphreys was third with a 43.Grant Mantell followed that with a 45, and at this point Griswold and Treynor were tied at 168. In that case, the fifth golfers’ scores are used to break the tie.For Griswold the fifth golfer was Dankert’s 55, for Treynor it was Jamison Keysor who shot a 47, giving Treynor the win.On the girls side, very few teams have been able and will probably be able to hang with Treynor. They currently hold the number two ranking for 2A in Iowa.Treynor topped Griswold, 188-244, behind great rounds from Aly Anderson and Kayla Chapman, who shot 42 and 45, respectively.They had help from low scores from their teammates as well.Madelyn Deitchler helped with her round of 48, as did McKenna Waffle and Randi Robinson who each had a round of 53.Sierra Maguire rounded out the scoring for Treynor with a round of 59. Griswold was led by a round of 50 from two- sport athlete Mateya Peters. Shelby Keiser followed that with a 62 and Karley Keiser had a 64.Kylie Dickinson added a 68, Reagan Oakleaf had a 69 and Bryanna Carlisle ended the round with a 73.Friday, Griswold bounced back by grabbing wins against AHSTW, the boys winning, 172-185, and the girls winning, 215-229.This time for the boys, James and Jake Reynolds switched who was the medalist and who was the runner-up, as James took the top spot with a score of 36 and Jake took second with a score of 39.The Reynolds were followed once again by Lewis who shot a 48, Brandon Hering and Marty Pelzer who each shot a 49, and Steinbeck who shot a 54.On the other side, AHSTW was led by Dustin Engel, who shot a 43, Wyatt Anzalone, who shot a 46, and Logan Hopner, who shot a 47.In addition, Anthony Cordes shot a 49 and Brandon Osbahr shot a 50.On the girls side, Griswold was able to grab the lowest score as well, when Peters shot a 46.On her team, she was followed by Shelby Keiser, who shot a 55, Bry Carlisle, who shot a 56, and Reagan Whitehill, who shot a 58.The rounded was ended out by Oakleaf, who shot a 68 and Karley Keiser, who shot a 70.The runner-up award went to Emma Jorgenson who shot a 52. The rest of her team had solid rounds but not enough to defeat Griswold.Hannah Denning was second on the team as she shot a 56. She was closely followed by Taylor Madden who shot a 58, and Madison Rasmussen, who shot a 63.Ali Hoepner closed out her round with a 67 and Abby Roush rounded out the field with a 78.Griswold will have a lighter week this week. Monday it hosted Audubon and it will host Riverside Friday at the Griswold Country Club starting at 4 p.m.Looking into May, on May 2 Griswold will host another match at the Griswold Country Club, when it will take on Missouri Valley.
