Ritchie, McCuen among SWV all-district mentions
The Southwest Valley Timberwolves had two football players selected for first team all-district in Class 1A-District 8 released last week.
Sammy Ritchie, a senior defensive lineman, and Gunnar McCuen, a defensive back, were the first team all-district selections for the Timberwolves.
Ritchie finished the 2014 season with 37 total tackles, third highest on the team. McCuen led the way in tackles with 71.5, including 59 solo, eight for a loss and three sacks.
The second team list features Colten Drake and Tyler Bissell. Drake was picked as a kicker.
He handled kickoffs for the Timberwolves this season, doing so 22 times for 869 yards.
Bissell was picked as a linebacker on the defensive side. Bissell had 19.5 tackles in his senior season.
Southwest Valley had two honorable mentions in Tony Klocke and Jerad Shires. Klocke, a junior, was the second leading tackler for the Timberwolves with 62 this season. Shires meanwhile had 23 tackles.
Southwest Valley had a rough season transitioning into 11-man football. They went 1-8 overall and didn’t score a single win in district play. The lone win for the Timberwolves came in a week one blowout of Clarinda Academy.
