ROCSD updates contract; hikes fees

The contract for the upcoming district renovation project has been updated.

At its meeting Monday, July 31, the Red Oak School Board met with Mark Pfister of Boyd Jones. Pfister said the contract was updated from 2015 to be specific to the project recently passed.

“We changed the architect to go with this project, the overall date of the project, and updated some fees for our personnel and equipment to reflect the 2017-18 school year for the project,” Pfister said.

Pfister added all the legal information was taken care of at the time the contract was created, and this was just a refresher. Also, there weren’t any major changes to the updated fees.

“Our fees stayed the same percentage-wise, at 3.85 percent. The hourly rate was still at the 2015 rate, and we updated that to our 2017-18 rate,” commented Pfister.

Also. Pfister said $1 million of professional liability insurance will be cared over throughout the course of the project, and there would be no change in cost to the district. Pfister said the cost for the insurance was budgeted into the project.

The board unanimously approved the updated agreement.

The board also agreed to raise fees for textbooks and workbooks. Messinger said they have not raised fees for the last two years, and recommended the K-5 and 6-12 textbook and workbook fees be raised. Preschool fees will remain the same.

Fees for K-5 textbooks will increase from $30 to $35, and 6-12 textbook fees will increase from $ 50 to $55. Messinger said the fees were comparable to fees among other schools in the district.
