Ronald Mills, 86
Dr. Ronald F. Mills, 86, Red Oak, died Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Ronald Francis Mills was born April 20, 1928, in Scottsbluff, Neb. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School, attended Illinois College of Optometry, graduating with a Doctor of Optometry Degree. He moved to Red Oak starting his own practice in 1955. He retired at the age of 75, after 50 years of service in southwest Iowa.
Dr. Mills truly loved his family, his business, his coworkers and his patients he served for all those years. He was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Red Oak Country Club. Ron also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his feline friend, “Schnookems.”
Preceding him in death was his mother, Vesta Woodle Mills and his granddaughter, Wendy Rene Mills.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Marlene Kay Mills of Red Oak; children, Julie Kae Mills of Breaux Bridge, La., Joni Sue Syverson and friend Mark Kates of Red Oak and Ronald Max Mills and wife Tabitha Sparks Mills of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren, Dustin Mills of Breaux Bridge, Melissa Sue Mills of Red Oak, Rachel Lynn Gebhardt and husband Lee of Pleasant Hill, Kody James Syverson of Red Oak, Abigail Jean Kates of Red Oak and Sidney Sparks of Littleton; two great grandchildren, Madeline Rae Mills of Red Oak and Garrett Lee Gebhardt of Pleasant Hill; sisters, Jean Wagoner of Clarinda and Pat Prather of Minnesota; sister-in-law, Pat England and husband Elmer of Clarinda; brother-in-law, Rolland Richardson and wife Janet of Clarinda; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
