Rose Sebeniecher, 78

Rosenia K. “Rose” Sebeniecher, 78, of Red Oak, formerly of Stanton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  

Rosenia Kathryine “Rose” Sebeniecher was born to George and Dora (Engleka) Mascher March 31, 1933, in Clarinda.  She was raised in Clarinda, graduating from the Clarinda High School, after which she received some nurses training.  

Rose was married to Robert Sebeniecher May 8, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark. They lived many different places throughout the United States while Robert served in the military. Their time in Iowa was spent in Clarinda, Hamburg, Waukee and Manning before they moved to Stanton in 1976.  

Rose was a nurses’ aid working at the hospital and Montgomery County Public Health for many years. She also spent time working at her son Mike’s café, the Wolfe Sale Barn, in Stanton, and the Iowa State University Extension.

After retirement, Rose enjoyed volunteering at the Department of Human Services and the ISU extension where she enjoyed working for “Mr. Bill” as she would call Bill Drey. She received the ISU Extension “Friend of 4-H” Award during that time. She also volunteered by selling folding scissors for the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa.

Rose loved to cook, crochet, fish, work crossword puzzles and feed squirrels.

She moved to Acorn Acres in Red Oak in 2008 with her best buddy Baxter the cat. Rose enjoyed her time there visiting with her friends and neighbors.  

Her greatest enjoyment came from the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bob, in 1979; her grandson, Devin, in 1984; her son, Steven, in 2005; her sister, Laura; and her brother, Fred.  

Survivors include her children, Michael (Debbie) Sebeniecher, of Oskaloosa, Rex (Doris) Sebeniecher, of Stanton, John (Angie) Sebeniecher, of Double Oak, Texas, and Connie (Randy) Pendleton, of Red Oak; daughter-in-law, Pam Sebeniecher, of Elk Horn; grandchildren, Steven, of Minnesota, Max, of Des Moines, Stephanie Hulgan, of Des Moines, Brandie Sebeniecher, of Grinnell, Dawn (Eric) Strueby, of Lenexa, Kan., Lanette (Nick) Harrington, of Sioux City, Jodi (Matthew) Lovato, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeff (Katrina) Sebeniecher, of Red Oak, Scot (Kacey) Sebeniecher, of Frisco, Texas, Jenni Sebeniecher. of Double Oak, and Kylie Pendleton, of Red Oak; step-grandson, Robert Sult, of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Brianne, Brooklyn, Isaac, Luke, Ian, Logan, Garrett, Katelyn, Benjamin, Sarah, Emily and Kaleb; sisters, Georgia and Joetta; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Mission Covenant Cemetery near Stanton. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.  

Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak 4-H Clubs. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
