Round-Up: East Mills and Griswold both win

MALVERN—The East Mills Wolverines football team got back on track, following their loss to   Logan-Magnolia, Friday when they defeated Underwood in district play 47-13.

Colby Jennings had four rushing touchdowns and 82 yards as the Wolverines moved to 3-1 (5-1 overall) in Class A District 8.

Josh Hopkins and Jacob Schafer scored the other two touchdowns for East Mills. Hopkins led the team in rushing with eight carries for 83 yards. Schafer, at quarterback, had seven yards rushing and threw five passes, completing two for nine yards.

Defensively, Lane Stortenbecker and Matt Walliser led the way for East Mills with nine tackles. Hopkins, as well as Michael Story each finished with eight.

East Mills has their sights set on the A-H-S-T Vikings for this week.  The Vikings are coming off a blowout win versus Riverside. They’re the only undefeated team in district 8.

The game starts in Malvern at 7 p.m.

Griswold 68, West Monona 6

The Tigers are also at 3-1 in the district as they stay with the group in district 8.

Griswold didn’t attempt a pass the entire game as they rushed for 516 yards and 10 touchdowns. Three different Griswold players had 100 yards rushing, while two were able to score three touchdowns each.

Kenneth Clary drew closer to reaching 1,000 yards rushing as he finished with 159 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns. Clary needs 48 yards to reach the 1,000-yard mark. He is also the third player in the district to record at least 10 rushing touchdowns for the season. The other two players are Jennings from East Mills and Kyle Bauerkemper from A-H-S-T.

Tyler Muhlbauer also had three rushing touchdowns as he carried the ball 14 times for 145 yards. Muhlbauer now had 576 yards rushing and seven touchdowns for the season, fifth most in the district.

Caleb Schaaf was the third running back with 100 yards, carrying the ball seven times for 112 with two touchdowns. Schaaf is ahead of Muhlbauer in the rushing totals as he has 596 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

Jacob Dickinson and James Reynolds scored the other touchdowns for Griswold. Reynolds had 46 yards on three carries, while Dickinson had 25 yards on four carries.

Hadley Ogg was the only other rusher for Griswold, carrying the ball five times for 29 yards.

The Tigers hit the road Friday night when they head to Oakland to play Riverside.
