Round Up: Stanton, Villisca, Essex and Griswold lose in district play

Fremont-Mills 65, Stanton 12

The Fremont-Mills Knights remains undefeated following a big win over the Stanton Vikings Friday night.

Fremont-Mills scored eight rushing touchdowns against Stanton. Nate Meier ran for 174 yards and six touchdowns, including a 63-yard score.

Quarterback A.J. Scarborough also rushed for 100 yards, finishing with 103 and a 44-yard touchdown run. Scarborough also had a touchdown pass to Curtis Beem.

The Vikings scored two touchdowns in the game, both courtesy of Greg Focht. Focht had 22 carries for 124 yards and had a 40-yard touchdown run.

Stanton quarterback Jeff Marshall finished with six carries for 41 yards.

Greg Marshall, Brent Hanson and Austin Becthold were the leading tacklers for Stanton, finishing with 12.

With the loss, Stanton is now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in District 8. They’re back in action this Friday night when they head to Villisca to take on the Blue Jays.

East Mills 68, Villisca 12

The Wolverines remain tied with Fremont-Mills for first place in the district, following their 68-12 win over Villisca.

East Mills took the lead early and never looked back. Luke Schafer completed all 12 of his passes for 204 yards with seven touchdowns. Schafer also had a 51-yard touchdown run.

Daniel Duysen caught five of those touchdown passes, for a total of 86 yards. Kyle Steiner caught the other two Schafer touchdown passes as he finished with three catches for 81 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown reception.

Villisca will host Stanton, while East Mills hosts the Nishnabotna Blue Devils.

St. Albert 56, Griswold 21

The Griswold Tigers dropped their second straight game this season when they lost to St. Albert on homecoming.

Griswold held a two-score lead early on, but St. Albert took the lead and held off the Tigers. Griswold had three rushing touchdowns in the game.

Garrett Muhlbauer led the team in rushing with 14 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown for 80 yards. Kenneth Clary fell shy of 100 yards rushing, finishing with 91 yards on six carries, including a 77-yard touchdown run.

Quarterback Holden Ogg had the other rushing touchdown for Griswold.

For St. Albert, Quarterback J.D. Culjat finished with 231 yards passing and three touchdowns. Tucker Culjat ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Griswold plays Audubon this Friday night.

Sidney 47, Essex 8

The Essex Trojans lost their third straight game Friday night, doing so to the Sidney Cowboys.

Sidney is now 5-1 overall and in control of fourth place in the district.
The Trojans are now 2-4 for the season.
