Ruth E. Mueller, 86

Ruth E. Mueller, 86, of Griswold, formerly of Grant, died on May 24, 2009, at the Griswold Care Center after an extended illness.

Ruth Elaine Mueller was born March 20, 1923, in Griswold, the daughter of Edwin and Verda (Miller) Phillips. She was raised in southwest Iowa graduating from the Villisca High School in 1940. She worked in Omaha for Union Pacific in their clerical department before being united in marriage to Kenneth Mueller on April 21, 1945, in Griswold. They lived all of their married life in Grant. Ruth was the Grant City Clerk for many years and later worked as a bookkeeper for Lester Swanson Accounting. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Bridge Club, Pinochle Club, the Order of Eastern Star, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Kenneth preceded Ruth in death on March 2, 2008.

Survivors include her daughter: Ramona (Lee) Hetrick of Lincoln, Neb.; son: John (Carla) Mueller of Elliott; four grandchildren; a great grandson; brother-in-law: Carl Mueller of Duluth, Minn.; sister-in-law: Carol Phillips of W. Covina, Calif.; two nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on May 26 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Grant, Iowa Cemetery.

A memorial fund is being established in Ruth’s name.
