Schuler retiring as Montgomery County FSA Director

RED OAK — After more than 27 years of service, Warren Schuler will retire as the County Executive Director (CED) of the Montgomery County Farm Service Agency (FSA). 

The Montgomery County FSA Office employees will host an Open House to bid farewell on Friday from 1-3:30 P.M. at 2505 N Broadway St. in Red Oak.  The public is invited.
Warren began his career in April 1983 in Sioux City as the Woodbury CED until transferring to Red Oak in February 1986.  The move allowed the Schuler’s to be able to be closer to each of their families.  
Warren was raised on a farm north of Grant and his wife Cynthia (Teachout) grew up in Shenandoah.   
They raised two children Vanessa, an architect and Kirk, an Assistant U.S. Attorney, who are both married and live in Plymouth, Minn., and Saipan, Northern Marianna Islands.
Warren has seen many changes occur over his 27 years with FSA. One being the name and organization change from Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) to the FSA.  
This involved the reorganization of Far-mers Home Admin-istration (FmHA) and ASCS to form the FSA in 1995.  
Another improvement was the move into our new building north of K-Mart in December 2000. Schuler noticed the biggest change was in the technology the office uses now compared to when he was hired in 1983.
Computers were added and upgraded over the years, which allowed teleconferencing to be utilized for some agency meetings and the Global Positioning System (GPS) to measure fields more accurately than the older technology.  
The number of farm programs that the FSA office now administers has increased and have become much more complicated, from having five major programs to more than double that now.  
Warren says a new CED will be hired by the County Committee, (Randy Pendleton, Shelley Lundgren and Kirk Franson), which may not occur for another year.  
The Schulers are moving to the Table Rock Lake area south of Branson, Mo.  They have no immediate plans.
