Shenandoah Fillies take down Red Oak Tigers with one run

The Tigers softball team struggled offensively in a 1-0 loss to the Shenandoah Fillies on June 9.

Red Oak Tiger’s pitcher Jamie Redel gave up one unearned run on four hits, striking out two, while walking no one.

Redel pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning when with two outs, two Fillies singled and a batter reached on a fielder’s choice. However, the score remained 0-0 when Redel retired the ninth place hitter on a comebacker.

In the fourth inning Shenandoah’s Kerri Rulon reached on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Rulon then scored the lone run of the game when Kristin Comstock singled to right field and advanced to second on an error. Comstock moved up to third on a ground ball for the second out of the inning but was stranded there.

The lone run was all Kylie Perkins needed as, the Shenandoah pitcher allowed just three singles issuing no walks and fanning 11 Tigers. No Tiger runner made it past second base in the game.

Andi Vanscoy finished with two hits and Rachel Jennings added one.
