Softball Regional Pairings Released
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) released the regional softball pairings Monday. Here are the pairings for area teams.
Red Oak in Class 3A
The Red Oak softball team will be on the road to open the 3A regional softball tournament. The Tigers will be in region 8 along with fellow Hawkeye 10 teams Clarinda, Shenandoah and Atlantic.
Red Oak will face Interstate-35 in Truro in the quarterfinal round, which takes place Tuesday, July 9. The winner of the game plays the winner of Clarinda and Shenandoah. The Cardinals and Fillies will face each other July 9 in Shenandoah.
The other quarterfinal match-ups will feature Saydel against Atlantic in Saydel, as well as Adel-DeSoto-Minburn versus Bondurant-Farrar in Bondurant.
Regional semifinals will take place Friday July 12 at Truro and Bondurant, while the regional final will be July 15 in Saydel.
Class 1A
The Class 1A field has also been set. Both Stanton and Essex will compete in region 8. Villisca will be playing in region 7.
Stanton's first round game will take place Monday, July 8 against Cumberland Anita Massena in Anita. The start time will be 7 p.m. Winner of the game faces Exira-EHK in Anita Wednesday, July 10.
Essex will get a home game for the first round when they host Nishnabotna. The start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Winner of that game plays the winner of Sidney and Fremont-Mills.
The other first round matches in region 8 will feature Adair-Casey against Coon Rapids-Bayard and Guthrie Center against Ar-We-Va. Newell-Fonda and Glidden Ralston both have first round byes.
The quarterfinal round will take place July 10 in Anita, Tabor, Coon Rapids and Fonda. Red Oak will serve as a semifinal location, as will Fonda. The semifinal round will be July 12. The regional final will take place in Coon Rapids July 15.
In region 7, Villisca will be on the road to play Corning. That first round game will be July 7 in Corning. The winner of that game faces the winner of Orient-Macksburg and Lenox July 10 in Lenox.
Other first round matches in region 7 will feature Bedford against East Union, Mormon Trail against Lamoni and Seymour versus Southeast Warren. Martensdale St. Marys, Wayne and Murray all have first round byes.
The quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds in region 7 will be the same days as region 8. Murray, Lenox, Corydon and Martensdale will be the quarterfinal locations. The semifinals will take place at Murray and Martensdale. The regional final will be July 15 at Winterset.
Class 2A
Both East Mills and Griswold will play each other in the first round in region 8. The game takes place Tuesday, July 9 at Griswold High School at 7 p.m. The winner of the game plays Treynor Wednesday, July 10 in Treynor.
The other first round games in region 8 will feature A-H-S-T against IKM-Manning, Riverside versus Audubon and St. Albert against Missouri Valley.
In addition, Underwood, Logan-Magnolia and Tri-Center have first round byes. The quarterfinal round takes place July 10 and will also take place at locations of Logan, Underwood and Neola.
The semifinals will be July 12 in Treynor and Underwood. Lewis Central in Council Bluffs will host the regional final July 15.
