Southwest Valley knocks off Lenox in Villisca

 VILLISCA — The Southwest Valley volleyball team made a return to Villisca for one night as they defeated Lenox 3-0 in Pride of Iowa action, last Tuesday.

The Timberwolves won 25-12, 25-16 and 25-14. In all three games, Lenox kept close, but Southwest Valley was able to pull away and secure the conference win.

Marie Palmer had 13 kills out of 26 attack attempts, with two blocks and four serving aces on 13-for-14 serves.

Kelsey Means meanwhile had seven kills, while Jade Petersen finished with five.

Southwest Valley had 19 serving aces in the Lenox win. Peterson had the most on the team with nine as she was 26-for-27 on her serves.

Leading in assists was Taylor Damewood, who had 26 of the team’s 29.

In digs, Kim Hults led with eight, while Katie Taylor had five and Damewood scored four.

Southwest Valley 3, Martensdale-St. Marys 1

The Timberwolves scored their other win Thursday on the road against Martensdale-St. Marys.

Southwest Valley won game one 25-21 and game two 26-24.

Martensdale-St. Marys stayed alive with a game three win 25-20.

However, the Timberwolves kept it from going five by winning the fourth game 25-18.

Palmer had 24 kills to lead the way for the Timberwolves. She also had 13 digs and five blocks.

Petersen had eight kills, while Lexi Bronner, Kelsey Means and Danica Sunderman each recorded six.

Damewood had a season-high of 48 digs. Hults had 23 digs.

Southwest Valley was on the road Monday night when they took on a Stanton. Stats from the game weren’t available as of press time.

The Timberwolves are back on the road Tuesday night as they go to Greenfield to play Nodaway Valley.

On Saturday, they host the annual tournament in Corning. The tournament will feature Essex, CAM, Exira-EHK, Guthrie Center, Lenox, Nodaway Valley and Nishnabotna. 

The first match begins at the Corning Activity Center at the Southwest Valley High School Corning campus at 9 a.m.
