Sports Calendar: February 14

It's more or less the final day of the regular season for several basketball teams.

In Red Oak Friday, the boys basketball team plays once more before the district tournament starts Monday as they host the Lenox Tigers. There will be no junior varsity game, therefore the varsity game starts at 6:30 p.m. Red Oak will try for its third straight win to close out the regular season.

The only other Red Oak related event taking place Friday will be at the Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs when Red Oak bowling takes part in the Hawkeye 10 meet. The meet starts at 10:30 a.m.

In other basketball action, the Stanton Vikings will play once more before starting the postseason when they take on Bedford. The junior varsity/varsity doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. at Bedford High School with the JV team. The varsity will start shortly after the conclusion of the JV game.

There is one doubleheader scheduled for Friday night around the area. The Essex basketball teams will be in action against Sidney. The games are being made-up from earlier in the month when there was a postponement because of the weather. The first game starts at 6 p.m. with the girls game.

There will be other sporting events for Saturday, but those will be covered in separate posts. The district wrestling preview will be posted this afternoon. We'll have another girls area regional basketball preview scheduled for tomorrow.
