Sports Calendar: June 18

Here is a list of all the baseball and softball games taking place for Tuesday.

Softball/Baseball Doubleheader: Fremont-Mills @ Villisca- 6 p.m.

In softball, both Villisca and Fremont-Mills are fighting to stay in the Corner Conference race. A win over Fremont-Mills would give Villisca the third place advantage in the standings. Both teams previously met June 6 with Villisca winning 15-10.

In baseball, Villisca will try to avennge their June 6 15-0 loss to them. Villisca's last official game was last Tuesday when they fell to Nishnabotna 10-4. They weren't able to complete the game Friday night against East Mills. No make-up date has been announced.

Softball/Baseball Doubleheader: East Mills at Essex- 6 p.m.

In softball, the Trojanettes are first in the Corner Conference. Their win against Stanton last Friday puts them in the driver seat to win the conference title. They already have a win against East Mills this season, but one more will give them the sweep.

In baseball, it was a big day for both offenses when the two teams previously met. East Mills got the 27-26 win. Both teams set a new state record for walks in a game with 35. Essex and South Page held the original record, which was 34. The original record was set in the 46-14 win in 1991.

Softball/Baseball Doubleheader: Stanton at Nishnabotna- 6 p.m.

The Viqueens look to stay close in the conference softball race the rest of the way. They'll need to get their wins the rest of the way. The remaining conference schedule for Stanton after Nishnabotna will be East Mills on Friday, Villisca next Tuesday (final regular season home game), at Sidney (June 28) and at Fremont-Mills (July 2).

In baseball, the last meeting didn't go so well for the Vikings. They lost to Nishnabotna 16-0. The Blue Devils remain undefeated in the Corner Conference baseball standings.

Additional Action

Finally the Western Iowa Conference tournament will continue Tuesday. The softball teams take to the field this day for the first round.

Griswold will face off against Audubon with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m. The game will take place in Treynor.

The Tigers are coming off of a 12-5 win on the road Monday night against Sidney.
