Sports Calendar: June 23

It's a busy night on the sports calendar. As of now, everything is still on, but there is severe weather possible in the forecast for Tuesday.

The big match-up of the night takes place in Essex when they host Fremont-Mills for some softball and baseball varsity doubleheaders. 

The softball doubleheader will be the one to watch as both teams fight for first place in the Corner Conference.

Thanks to its sweep of Stanton last night, Essex sits alone in second place (5-1) in the Corner Conference.  Should Essex get the sweep, they'll have sole-possession of first place in the conference. A split will keep Fremont-Mills in first place.

The Trojanettes need the sweep, plus wins over Sidney and East Mills later in the week to clinch the Corner Conference title outright.

The doubleheaders are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

In other Corner Conference action, East Mills will face off against Clarinda Academy in a baseball doubleheader that starts at 5 p.m. in Malvern.

Meanwhile, the Griswold softball team hits the road to play in the Western Iowa Conference softball tournament. They'll take on Logan-Magnolia in Logan at 7 p.m.

Finally, Southwest Valley will be in action at Mount Ayr. The softball game starts at 7 p.m., while the baseball game starts at 7:30 p.m.
