Sports Calendar: May 29
The first week of the baseball/softball season continues Thursday night with teams around the area competing.
The Red Oak baseball team will be home Thursday evening at Legion Park as they host a JV/Varsity doubleheader against Atlantic. It all starts at 5:30 p.m. with the JV game.
The Tigers are 0-1 to start the season. They lost 2-0 Monday night at home to Fremont-Mills. They were originally scheduled to play Underwood Tuesday night, but that game was postponed because of rain.
The Trojans meanwhile are coming off of a 15-5 win versus Logan-Magnolia Wednesday night.
The Red Oak softball team will also be in action Thursday evening at the Atlantic Softball Field when they take on the Trojanns. The JV/Varsity doubleheader kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
Red Oak faces a similar situation to the baseball team as they started the season with a 15-10 loss to Fremont-Mills Monday night. Tuesday's game against Underwood was also rained out.
Atlantic meanwhile is fresh off a 9-6 opening season win Tuesday night versus Missouri Valley.
Meanwhile, Corner Conference teams will be in action for Thursday evening.
Both Essex teams will be in action when they take on two different teams. The Baseball team will be at Clarinda Academy for a doubleheader, which starts at 4:30 p.m. The girls meanwhile go to Riverside for a doubleheader as that starts at 6:30 p.m.
The big match-up of the night in the Corner Conference takes place in Malvern when East Mills faces Fremont-Mills. The softball game starts at 5:30 p.m., while the baseball game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
In Pride of Iowa action, the Southwest Valley softball team will be home as they host Treynor for a JV/Varsity doubleheader. The action is expected to start at 6 p.m. in Corning.
Finally, the Griswold softball and baseball teams will be home for doubleheader actioon. The varsity baseball team is expected to face Bedford, while the softball team faces off versus Tri-Center. It all begins at 5 p.m. at Griswold High School with the JV softball game.
