Sports Calendar: September 10
There is plenty going on for this Tuesday.
In volleyball, several area teams will be home.
The Red Oak Tigers will have their first home meet this season when they take on the Glenwood Rams. The action starts at 7:30 p.m.
Red Oak is coming off of a loss to fellow top five team Kuemper Catholic. They will take on a Glenwood team that has started the season with a 5-2 record, including a pair of wins last week against Omaha schools.
Stanton will also be home Tuesday as they take on the Fremont-Mills Knights. The Viqueens are fresh off their big weekend at the Missouri Valley tournament. They will take on a Fremont-Mills team coming off of a win against Griswold.
In Corning, the Southwest Valley Timberwolves make their home debut as they face Mount Ayr. The varsity match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The Timberwolves are 2-0 to start the season, including a comeback win last Thursday against East Mills.
Mount Ayr meanwhile has lost two of its first three matches. The most recent match was a win as Mount Ayr defeated Southeast Warren last Tuesday.
A couple of area teams will be on the road Tuesday, including the Essex Trojanettes, who take on Sidney.
The Trojanettes have started the season with a 2-4 record. They lost last Thursday to Riverside and Bedford. Sidney meanwhile has lost six straight matches. They were 0-3 at a weekend tournament in Weeping Water, Neb.
East Mills meanwhile heads to Farragut to face Nishnabotna. This will be the second match for the Wolverines in two nights. They defeated Tarkio Monday night, 3-0. This will be Nishnabotna's first match since Aug. 27 when they lost to Stanton.
Finally, the Red Oak, Griswold and Southwest Valley cross country teams will be in action Tuessday as they compete in Clarinda. The action starts at 4:30 p.m. This meet marks the season debut for Griswold.
