Sports Calendar: September 18

There are a few matches scheduled around the area for Thursday evening.

The most noteworthy match takes place in Stanton as the Viqueens host Nishnabotna. Volleyball matches at Stanton will start at 3:30 p.m. with the junior high squad, followed later in the evening by JV and varsity.

The Viqueens are fresh off a strong weekend at the Shenandoah Tournament. They're undefeated in conference play.

Nishnabotna meanwhile stunned the East Mills Wolverines, 3-2, on Tuesday night in Malvern.

This is the second meeting between the two schools this season. They previously met Aug. 26 when Stanton rallied to win 3-2. The first meeting didn't count in the conference record.

Elsewhere, the Griswold volleyball team will hit the road as they play Underwood in Western Iowa Conference action. The varsity match is expected to start at 7:45 p.m.

Griswold will try to avoid its second straight loss. They lost 3-0 to Tri-Center Tuesday night.

Underwood meanwhile is coming off a 3-0 win versus Audubon. They're 2-0 in conference play.

Finally, Southwest Valley will hit the road when they take on Martensdale-St. Marys. this match is being made up from last Thursday. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

Southwest Valley is fresh off a win Tuesday night in Villisca against Lenox. They're currently 2-0 in Pride of Iowa.

Martensdale-St. Marys meanwhile is fresh off a win at Interstate-35 Tuesday night. They're 2-2 in Pride of Iowa action.

Cross Country

The only area cross country meet scheduled for Thursday will take place in Corning as Southwest Valley serves as host at the Happy Hollow Country Club. The varsity meet is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.

Red Oak will be in attendance for the meet, as will also Bedford, Central Decatur, Lenox, Shenandoah, Treynor and more.
