Sports Calendar: Tentative June 4 schedule

We missed out on rainouts Wednesday and got in some games, but that might change for Thursday.

With much of the area at an enhanced risk for severe weather, there's a lot of rain in the forecast for Thursday morning, afternoon and evening.

The day starts with state tennis in Ankeny. Red Oak's Kate Walker will compete in singles, while Grace Blomstedt and Micayla Taylor compete in doubles.

Walker takes on Lilly Roozebloom of Pella in the first round, while Blomstedt and Taylor take on Harley Cook and Karley Williams of Fairfield. The first round matches kick off at 10 a.m.

If rain hits the area, the tournament will move to the Knapp Tennis Center at Drake University.

In softball action, Red Oak returns to action Thursday night for a varsity doubleheader against Lewis Central. The game will be played in Council Bluffs as the doubleheader starts at 5:30 p.m.

In Corner Conference action, Essex will be home as they host a softball/baseball varsity doubleheader against Stanton. The doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. with the softball game.

As of now, the games in Essex are still on as scheduled. However, Wednesday's softball game between Essex and Red Oak was moved to Red Oak because of field conditions at the Essex softball field.

East Mills will be home Thursday night as they host Nishnabotna. The softball varsity game starts first at 5:30 p.m., with varsity baseball scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Southwest Valley hits the road for a JV/varsity doubleheader in both softball and baseball versus Lenox. The JV teams play first at 6 p.m.
