Sports Calendar: Weekend Happenings

There's plenty going on for Friday and Saturday around Southwest Iowa.

Bowling: Red Oak at Holiday Tournament- Lightning Bowl at Council Bluffs- 12:30 p.m.

The Red Oak bowling team will go and try to pick up wins at the Holiday Tournament in Council Bluffs Friday afternoon.

The team is coming off a split Tuesday against Creston. The boys' won and the girls lost their matches. We'll have much more on that match in Tuesday's paper.

Last season, both teams won the Holiday Tournament. The boys defeated Lewis Central by more than 100 pins, while the girls held off LeMars by six pins.

Wrestling: Red Oak at Central Decatur Tournament at Central Decatur High School in Leon- 5 p.m.

Fresh off Thursday night's duals, the Tigers look to cap their week off with another strong performance. Red Oak defeated Kuemper Catholic, but fell short against Harlan at home Thursday. We'll have much more on the duals in Tuesday's Red Oak Express.

Last season, Red Oak finished sixth at the Central Decatur Tournament. Seth Esaias was the lone wrestler last season to bring up a singles title from the meet.

Basketball Doubleheader: Red Oak at Clarinda at Clarinda High School- 6 p.m.

This will be the first game for both Clarinda teams in a week. They both last played Nov. 30 against Kuemper Catholic.

For the Red Oak girls' team, they'll try to make it two in a row. They're fresh off a strong win at home against Atlantic. They'll play a 1-1 Clarinda team Friday night.

In the boys' game, Red Oak looks to snap the two-game losing skid, while Clarinda remains in search of its first win.

Basketball Doubleheader: Stanton at Heartland Christian- 6:15 p.m.

The Vikings  remain in search of their first win, after losing Thursday night against Shenandoah. The Viqueens will try and win their third straight, as part of the doubleheader.

Both Heartland Christian teams are winless in their first two games.

Boys Basketball: Villisca at South Page- 7:30 p.m.

The Blue Jays will try to make it four in a row Friday night in College Springs. Villisca was able to get the easy win Tuesday night against Clarinda Academy.

South Page is coming off a Tuesday night win against Stanton.

Basketball Doubleheader: Essex at Clarinda Academy- 6:15 p.m.

Both Essex teams are coming off losses to A-H-S-T Thursday night and will try to right the ship Friday against Clarinda Academy.

The Trojans are 0-5 to start the season. They'll play a Clarinda Academy team with a 1-1 record under its belt.

The Trojanettes are 3-2 to start the season.

Additional games

The East Mills Wolverines will take part in a doubleheader on the road Friday night when they face Sidney. The East Mills boys have won two straight and will try to make it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Griswold will be home Friday night when they host Riverside for a doubleheader. The boys' picked up a win Tuesday night against A-H-S-T and will go for two in a row. They'll play a Riverside team that is coming off a win against Treynor Tuesday night.

In the girls match-up, Griswold is coming off a close win against A-H-S-T. They play a Riverside team that has lost two of its first three games to start the season.

Saturday

There's one noteworthy game for Saturday, also a change of venue. The Villisca Blue Jays will now be home for their game against Shenandoah. The varsity games will now start at 4 p.m.
