RO boys begin BB season with win

The Red Oak boys basketball team defeated Clarinda 55-47 in the opening game of the season. There were multiple lead changes in the first quarter before Red Oak pulled away by 12 at halftime and as many as 14 in the third quarter. Clarinda fought back to within four near the end of the fourth quarter, but a few clutch free throws by Max DeVries sealed the win for the Tigers. 

DeVries led the Tiger scoring with 20 points, and had five rebounds.

Red Oak stats: Bradley Sifford 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals; Ryan Johnson 11 points, five rebounds, one block, one steal; Kaden Johnson six points, eight rebounds; Hunter Gilleland four points, two rebounds, three assists; Braden Woods two points, two rebounds; Brayden Sifford two rebounds; Nic Fouts four rebounds.

Red Oak girls fell to Clarinda 52-23.

The young Red Oak team was led by sophomore Merced Ramirez with six points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks. 

Senior Lennon O’Neal finished with a strong rebounding game, grabbing nine boards.

Red Oak stats: Payten Bass six points, three rebounds; Olivia Bozwell five points, six rebounds; Lainey DeVries four points, eight rebounds; Jaydin Lindsay two points, two rebounds; Maddie Doyle three rebounds.

Lewis Central

The Tigers hosted Lewis Central on Friday, Dec. 3, with both Tiger teams falling to the Titans.

Red Oak girls basketball fell to 0-3 in the 66-17 Hawkeye-10 loss as the Tigers struggled with the Titan press. 

The Tigers were down 42-15 at the half, and Payten Bass was the lone scorer in the second half of the fast-paced game.

Bass led the Tiger scoring with nine points, and secured three rebounds and two steals.

Red Oak stats: Ramirez four points, two rebounds; Bozwell two points, five rebounds, one steal; DeVries two points, two rebounds; O’Neal three rebounds.

Red Oak hosts conference foe Shenandoah (3-1) tonight beginning at 6 p.m.

Boys

The Tiger boys fell to a 1-1 record in the 57-35 loss to Lewis Central (1-1).

The Tigers were down by just six at the end of the first period, but were only able to add one point in the second period while Lewis Central added a dozen to pull away to a 32-13 half time lead. Although the Tigers came out with better shooting in the third quarter, it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Johnson eight points, 10 rebounds, one block; DeVries eight points, two rebounds; Gilleland five points; Brayden Sifford two points, two rebounds, one steal; Fouts two points, three rebounds; K. Johnson one point, two rebounds, two assists.  

The Tigers take on Shenandoah (0-3) tonight following the girls game at 6 p.m.
