Stanton falls to Essex, Villisca and Corning

STANTON—The Stanton Vikings lost 40-37 against Essex Friday night.
The Vikings shot 12-of-51 from the field and scored single-digit points in three of four quarters.
Greg Focht was the high scorer for Stanton with 13 points. His 13 rebounds gave Focht the double-double for the night.
Jeff Marshall was the next highest scorer, adding eight points in the loss.
The Vikings lost to heated-rival, the Villisca Blue Jays, 62-26, in Villisca.
Villisca jumped ahead of Stanton, including a 14-5 run in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Blue Jays scored a combined 41 points in the second and third quarter. The game went into a continuous clock for the fourth quarter.
Stanton made 11 field goals the entire game.
Shayne Larson was the high scorer for the Vikings with 16 points.
Marshall and Focht scored the other 10 points for Stanton, last Tuesday night.
Stanton lost to Corning, last Monday night 53-43, in Stanton.
The Vikings scored eight points in the first quarter and didn’t score higher than 14 in any of the other three quarters.
Three Vikings players finished the game with double-figure scoring.
Larson led Stanton with 17 points, while Focht finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds (seven offensive), giving him a double-double.
Marshall also scored with 11 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double.
The Vikings have two games left, both on the road, before the holiday break hits.
Monday night, the Vikings played Riverside in Oakland. Tuesday night, they’re facing Sidney.
