Stanton sweeps East Mills; Queens in walk off fashion

Stanton hosted East Mills on Monday, June 24, in conference action, and swept the Wolverines.
Eighth grader Jenna Stephens drove in the winning run in the home half of the final inning, earning the walk-off win 5-4.
The Viqueens opened up the scoring in the second inning, scoring two runs, and each team added one run in the fourth for a 3-1 Stanton lead. The Wolverines tied up the score in the fifth, adding two runs, and went ahead in the sixth with another run, taking a 4-3 lead, while holding Stanton scoreless in those two frames.
Kaitlyn Bruce pitched six innings for the Viqueens, striking out eight Wolverines and walking three.
Elise Dailey pitched the final inning, earning the win with one strike out, and one walk.
As Dailey kept East Mills away from home, the Stanton offense went to bat. The Queens loaded the bases with no outs, due to Wolverine errors, and Olivia Baker knotted the score.
Bruce singled and loaded the bases again for Stephens’ single to drive in the winning run.
Devin Isaacson tripled and scored two runs to lead Stanton’s offense, and Ali Silvius doubled.
Brooklyn Adams plated twice.
Kassidy Croghan took the loss while giving up just six hits in the complete game pitched.

Boys
The Vikings remain undefeated in the conference with a 6-4 win over East Mills to finish the clean sweep.
The Vikings rotated through five pitchers with Keygan Day earning the win in 2 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out five and walked one.
Colby Royal, Carter Johnson, Drake Johnson, and Donnie Weis combined for the other 4 1/3 innings. They combined for eight strike outs, two walks, and gave up three hits.
Stanton jumped to a 2-0 start in the first inning, and held the lead through the second frame. East Mills got their bats going in the third and drove in three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Stanton answered in the home half of the fourth, plating four runs to regain control of the scoreboard 6-3. Although the Wolverines added one run in the fifth, they could not add any more, and Stanton climbed to a 10-3 overall record
Day, D. Johnson, and Ransom Mascher each hit a double.
Tyler Peterson plated two runs, and the Vikes got one run each from Weis, D. Johnson, Royal, and Mascher.
Nic Duysen took the loss for the Wolverines, throwing 3 2/3 inning with five strike outs, one walk, and giving up three earned runs on eight hits.
Michael Schafer pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief with five strike outs.
East Mills got just three hits on the night, two from Trevor Glockel and one from Schafer.
Davis McGrew plated two runs, running for Glockel, and Tyler Prokop and Ethan Yoshida each plated a run.
East Mills falls to 6-6 overall on the season.
