Stanton swept by Fremont-Mills

 TABOR — Both Stanton softball and baseball teams lost on the road Friday night to Fremont-Mills.

The baseball team lost 6-5 to the Knights. Fremont-Mills scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the win.

Brady Johnson was the top producer for Stanton as he went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Dustin Isaacson meanwhile went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Reece Anderson had the only other hit in the game.

The Vikings were walked eight times in the game.

Chris Jones, David Sorensen and Easton Blunt scored the other runs for Stanton.

The softball team meanwhile lost 6-4 to Fremont-Mills.

The Knights took a 6-0 lead after two innings. Stanton tried to close the gap with runs in the fourth and fifth inning, but it wasn’t enough.

Lauren Stephens led the way by going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Heidi Vanderholm went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Devin Druivenga scored the other run for Stanton. Chelsea Weis and Ally Focht both went 1-for-3, while Logan Wagg was 1-for-4 in the game.

The Viqueens were back in Tabor the next day for the Fremont-Mills softball tournament.

Stanton lost both of its games. They fell 3-2 to Shenandoah and 10-2 to Fremont-Mills.

The Viqueens once again tried to rally from behind against Shenandoah. However, Stanton managed one run in the fifth inning.

Vanderholm went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Stephens went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Mallorie Wookey went 2-for-3 in the game.

In the Fremont-Mills game, Stanton scored their two runs in the latter stage of the game as the Knights jumped out to a 6-0 lead and remained ahead.

Weis went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Wagg scored the other run for Stanton.

Savanna Moffett and Devin Druivenga both went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Stanton vs. East Mills

It was a split last Monday as the softball team won, but the baseball team lost.

The softball team scored a 13-3 win in six innings over the Wolverines.

Stanton had just two hits in the game as they were walked 14 times.

Right fielder Nicole Graham had the most walks with four. Graham also scored three runs. 

Weis also scored three runs as she was walked three times.

Vanderholm and Druivenga each scored two runs, while Wagg, Stephens and Wookie each had one.

Stephens and Focht had the lone hits, as both went 1-for-2. Focht had three RBIs.

The baseball team meanwhile lost its game 11-10.

Stanton took the lead early, but East Mills rallied back to get the win.

Stanton had 15 hits in the game, four of which came courtesy of Sorensen, who was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.

Isaacson went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Anderson, Alex Becthold and Connor Hultman  went 2-for-4.

Leading the way for East Mills was Kyle Ryun, who went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Keegan Wederquist went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three stolen bases. 

Logan Currin went 1-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Both Stanton teams were home Monday night as they were scheduled to play Nishnabotna. Results from the game weren’t available as of press time.

They’re home again Wednesday night to host Orient-Macksburg as part of a varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
