Streicher lone Red Oak pick for H-10 team

 The Red Oak softball team had one player picked for the Hawkeye 10 All-Conference softball team.

Infielder Sydney Streicher was an honorable mention addition to the team.

Streicher, a freshman, is joined on the honorable mention list by Lewis Central’s Josie Shudak and Ashtyn Miller, Harlan’s Brenda Hopkins and Julia Sorfonden, Glenwood’s Mackenzie Richter and Lyndie VanNess, St. Albert’s Emily Bardon, Clarinda’s Chandler Strough and Klarissa McElroy, Atlantic’s Baylee Newell, Kuemper Catholic’s Bailey Nichols, Creston’s Lexie Little and Denison-Schleswig’s Alex Mohr and Sarah Neilesen.

Streicher completed her second season with the Tigers, playing most of it at shortstop.

In 31 games for the Tigers, Streicher posted a .207 batting average and a .361 on-base percentage with 12 hits, nine runs scored and six RBIs. Streicher also led the team in steals, going 11-for-13.

Creston, who finished third in the state softball tournament Friday, led all teams with seven all-conference selections, including three (Natalie Mostek, Taylor Briley and Haylee LaMasters) on the first team list.

Harlan and Glenwood were tied for second, each getting six, including two on the first team.

Red Oak finished the 2015 softball season with a 4-30 record.

Last season, Red Oak had two honorable mentions to the all-conference team. Bailey Hankins and Maranda Gowdy were both picked.
