Students selected for Honor Band Festival

The Southwest Iowa Bandmasters Association held its annual District Middle School Honor Band Auditions on Oct. 30 at Clarinda Middle School.

 Over 500 students auditioned for selection to the seventh and eighth grade Honor Bands.  The Honor Band Festival was held at Denison High School on Nov. 12.  Conductors for the 2010 SWIBA Middle School Honor Bands were Steve Britt, SWIBA President from Harlan Middle School, Harlan, Iowa for the seventh grade band and Michael Davies from Prairie Point Middle School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the eighth grade band.
Students from the Red Oak Middle School Bands who were selected to participate in SWIBA Honor Bands were:  eighth grade:  Vincent Breedlove, bassoon; Grace Blomstedt, trumpet; Teanna Pafford, horn; Shelbie Perez, horn; Jared Sherman, baritone; Kate Walker, mallet percussion; seventh grade:  Natalie Butz, horn, Ethan Hewett, percussion.  Director of the Red Oak Middle School Bands is John Hewett.
