Summer youth assistant working for ISU Extension

RED OAK — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach—Montgomery County has a new summer youth assistant working out of the Red Oak office.

Abby Leighton began her duties May 27  and her tasks include assisting with summer day camps offered through extension and outreach, such as Mission to Mars, the Private Eye and Growing in the Garden, along with Montgomery County Fair preparations and general office duties.

Leighton graduated from Griswold High School in 2012 and recently finished her freshmen year at Iowa State University, where her major is Agricultural Studies.

Her parents are Scott and Angie Leighton of rural Griswold.

“I cannot think of a better way to spend my summer,  This job has something new to offer every day, and I love the variety. It’s great to be able to combine my love for agriculture and ISU into a job that allows me to communicate directly with rural people and children,” Leighton said.

Stop by the Montgomery County Extension office at 400 Bridge St. to meet Abby and look for her at the fair.
