Sunberg’s relay team takes fifth

 MARSHALLTOWN — Red Oak athlete Josh Sunberg once again placed during Saturday’s state swimming meet.

Sunberg, who swims with Lewis Central, finished fifth as part of the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay. The team finished with a time of 1:28.13, less than three seconds behind the state champions, Iowa City West.

They were also edged out by West Des Moines Valley, Cedar Rapids-Washington and Johnston, while finishing ahead of Waukee, Pleasant Valley, Bettendorf and Ames, among other teams.

The team, which featured RJ Hemmingsen, Ryan Price and Spencer Smith, all qualified for the state meet with a time of 1:29.32.

Lewis Central finished fifth at the state meet with a score of 101. Iowa City West won the state title, recording a score of 205.
