SW Iowa Cub Scout programs to start

As area schools have begun a new year, so too have local Cub Scout Packs. To kick-off the new program year, many area Cub Scout packs will be holding “Pack Parties” to welcome new members. However, if you and your son are unable to make it to the local Cub Scout Pack’s sign-up night, don’t worry, there is still plenty of time to get involved.

“We understand that many youth are involved in local sporting activities and we want them to know that they can still join Cub Scouts,” said Tom Barnett, District Executive for the Trailblazer District. “Scouting is not a one-time deal, and we are always welcoming new boys and their families into the Scouting program.”

Cub Scouts is open to boys in first through fifth grades and or 7-10 years of age, and it offers many benefits. Scouting can help strengthen families, help the boys to develop interests and skills and can provide a positive place for young boys to grow and thrive. In addition, it gives boys many fun activities in which they can participate with their friends.

The Trailblazer District is a part of the Mid-America Council and serves over 2,000 youth and adults in Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, Page, Adams, Union, Taylor and Ringgold counties in Iowa, including five Venturing crews.

To help deliver the excitement of Scouting to Iowa’s youth the district relies on the help of many volunteers throughout its communities. Some of these volunteers include Krystal Wyatt of Glenwood, Angie Awe of Council Bluffs and Kim Schierkolk of Shenandoah who all serve on the membership committee and will assist with recruiting and pack parties this fall.
