Swanie G. Franzen, 76, of Red Oak, formerly Stanton, died Aug. 14, 2009, at his residence.
Swanie Gustaf Franzen was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Red Oak the son of Erick and Mary (Rossander) Franzen. On Dec. 19, 1954, he married Lois Hartman at St. John’s Church near Lyman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law: Margrette and Louis Hartman; brothers-in-law: Andy Chapman and Clair Coughlin; sister-in-law: Rosie Franzen; and a nephew: Scott Hartman.
Survivors include his wife: Lois Franzen of Red Oak; children: Cindy (Kevin) Hallquist of Stanton; Doug (Kathy) Franzen of Stanton; Carolyn (Tom) Bashaw of Villisca; Karen (Dan) Crouse of Red Oak; and Julie (Jim) Stanley of Red Oak; 13 grandchildren; sister: Mary Anna Chapman of Red Oak; brother: Bernie Franzen and friend Nettie of Forest City, Mo.; sisters-in-law: Mary Coughlin of Elliott and Ardell (Don) McCunn of Massena; brother-in-law: Alan (Judy) Hartman of Cumberland.
Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.
Memorials are suggested to the Mamrelund Lutheran Church or the Diabetes Association.
