SWV gets first win of season

 LENOX — The Southwest Valley girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season last Tuesday when they defeated Lenox 53-25.

The Timberwolves took control early as their defense shut down Lenox, holding the Tigers to 13 first-half points.

Southwest Valley’s defense continued to keep Lenox from scoring, allowing just two points. Offensively, the Timberwolves had double-digit points in three of the four quarters.

Marie Palmer had her first double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Lexi Bronner had seven points as well as five rebounds and three steals. Jonnie Weeks had six points and three steals.

Kim Hults, Regan Jessen, Shelby Cooper and Katie Taylor each scored five points for the Timberwolves. Hults also had a team-high four steals. The Timberwolves had 21 steals in the win.

Kelsey Means and Jade Petersen each scored four points.

Southeast Warren 54, Southwest Valley 41

The Timberwolves fell short in their last game before break Friday.

Palmer and Shelby Cooper each led the way with 12 points. Jessen had six points, while Janelle Gibler had four.

Southwest Valley returns to action Jan. 6 in Villisca when they host Mount Ayr.
