SWV golfers split 1st tee time

The Southwest Valley golf teams played their first meet of the year last Thursday, splitting the wins with the Clarinda Cardinals.
For the first time in several years, the Timberwolves have enough girls on the team to post a team score.
“With one junior, one sophomore, and two freshmen, the team is very young,” head coach Cindy Drake said. “The team played in their first varsity golf meet on a course that is much longer and harder than their home course. I am pleased with the way they played.”
The girls scored 276. led by Abbie Wetzel, who shot a 56.
Maddie Ballard hit 71, Aubrey Boswell 72, and Sydney Westlake 77.
Boys
The boys defeated the Cardinals 190-194.
Avery Kwirant earned medalist honors, shooting a 40.
Cole Swenson shot 44, Scotty Adcock 48, and Brock Bowden 58.
Other Timberwolves competing were Connor Shipley, who shot a personal best of 59, and Gage Barton with 77.
“The wind chills were in the mid to low 30s, and made for a chilly evening, but the golfers all put their heads down and went to work,” Drake said.
