SWV softball beats FM at Griswold tournament
GRISWOLD — The Southwest Valley softball team picked up its lone win at the Griswold softball tournament Saturday against Fremont-Mills 10-6.
The Timberwolves scored three runs in the sixth inning to ensure the victory.
Southwest Valley started the game with a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Fremont-Mills recovered to tie the game 3-3 and then scored two more runs in the third to make it 5-3.
However, the Timberwolves scored four runs in the fourth to stay ahead.
Ashtyn Grossnickle led the way for Southwest Valley by going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and four RBIs.
Kelsie Kinman meanwhile was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Taylor Gaule also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Danica Sunderman was also 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Kim Hults, Sydney Pontius, Lexi Bronner, Allie Bronner and Shelby Nelson each recorded a hit in the win.
Kiara Roberts picked up the win as she tossed a complete game, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and striking out three.
Southwest Valley meanwhile lost 10-0 during the Griswold tournament to Exira-EHK in five innings.
Gaule was the lone hit for Southwest Valley.
Pleasantville 4, Southwest Valley 1
The Timberwolves lost Friday night on the road versus Pleasantville.
Southwest Valley was held to four hits in the game as they scored their only run in the sixth.
Sunderman, who was 0-for-2 with a walk, scored the lone run for the Timberwolves.
Pleasantville scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to ensure the victory.
Kinman and Pontius were both 1-for-3 with doubles. Kinman had the RBI hit that scored Sunderman.
Lexi Bronner was 1-for-3, as was Gaule.
Southwest Valley 16, Bedford 4
The Timberwolves cruised to a 16-4 win in four innings last Tuesday versus Bedford.
The difference came in the third inning when Southwest Valley scored 12 runs to take a 15-4 lead.
Pontius scored three runs as she went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Lexi Bronner was 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI.
Dakota Sleep went 3-for-3, who had two doubles and scored a run.
Gaule was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three more batted in.
Allie Bronner was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.
Kinman went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Roberts got the win, going four innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits.
Southwest Valley 16, Stanton 15
It was a back and forth game last Monday, but the result ended in Southwest Valley’s favor as they rallied to beat Stanton in the final inning
Both teams were tied 1-1 after the first inning.
However, the Timberwolves scored seven runs in the second and third inning (Stanton scored a run in the third) to take an 8-2 lead.
The Viqueens rallied with six runs in the fourth to tie the game 8-8. The lead swung back towards Southwest Valley thanks to two runs in the fifth as they led 10-8.
Stanton took the lead in the top of the sixth, courtesy of three runs scored as they led 11-10.
The Timberwolves tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make 12-11.
Stanton responded by scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to make it 15-12. The Timberwolves score four runs in the bottom half of the inning to clinch the win.
Pontius and Allie Bronner both led Southwest Valley with three hits. Pontius was 3-for-5 with a double. Bronner meanwhile had a double and three RBIs as she went 3-for-4.
Hults scored three runs as she went 2-for-4. Sleep also scored three runs and knocked in three more as she went 2-for-3.
Kinman had two runs scored, including a home run and three RBIs as she went 2-for-5. Sunderman was 2-for-4, while Grossnickle went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
Lexi Bronner picked up the win as she went all seven innings, giving up 15 runs (12 earned) on 13 hits with six strikeouts.
Carmen Subbert, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and five RBIs, meanwhile led Stanton.
Macy Elwood was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and a RBI.
Erin DeKay went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and four more driven in. Chelsea Weis was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.
Southwest Valley returned to action Monday night to take on Lamoni. Results weren’t available as of press time.
Tuesday night, Southwest Valley will be home as they take on Mount Ayr.
They’re back on the road Thursday to play Lenox and return home Friday to play Southeast Warren.
