Ted C. Strait, 62
Army Master Sergeant (MSG), Ted C Strait, 62, Corning, died peacefully May 3, 2013, in Cape Coral, Fla.
Ted was born Nov. 13, 1950, in Corning and graduated from Corning High School.
MSG Ted Strait enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard July 8, 1970. He enlisted as an 11B Infantryman in the 1-168th Infantry in Corning and was a Master Sergeant, assigned to G Company 334th Brigade Support Battalion upon death. With 43 years of service, he served two tours in Afghanistan and one in Kosovo. He was awarded numerous awards and decorations, to include two Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and earned his Combat Action Badge.
He was preceded in death by his father Carroll and son Bradley.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; his mother, Dorothy Willett Fife; his children, Chad (Joy) Strait and Cory (Tammy) Strait; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Linda Johnson; and a brother, Harvey Peterson.
An outdoor memorial service will be held in MSG Strait’s honor Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Pool Pavilion located at Camp Dodge in Johnston. Attendees may use the East Gate near the Tank Park on NW Beaver Drive. Full military honors will be awarded to MSG Strait at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Adel at 2 p.m. Family, fellow servicemen and women and friends are invited to return to Camp Dodge for a reception and fellowship following the military honors at the Veteran Cemetery.
There will be a visitation at “Strait’s Pond” 1/8 of a mile south of the Lake Icaria beach entrance Sunday, May 19, from 1-4 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and stories. In case of inclement weather, contact Chad at 712-303-0992.
