Tiger BB falls to errors; SB suffers heartbreak loss

The Red Oak Tigers hosted Shenandoah last Tuesday, with both teams falling short to the maroon.
“We didn’t make plays early, got down a couple runs, and didn’t respond very well,” Tigers coach Mark Erickson said. “There is continued improvement on offense as we are seeing extended at bats and hard hit balls right at defenders. Those things don’t always show up in the scorebook.”
The Tigers fell 10-2 with Cole Carlson and Colton Kinnison scoring the runs for the team.
Carter Bruce started the game and pitched 3 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking one.
Mitch Johnson and Garrett Couse combined in relief.
Carter Bruce, Ryan Messinger, Asher Hinshaw, and Kinnison all had singles at the plate.

Creston
The Tigers traveled to Creston for a make-up game, falling 12-1 in five innings.
Red Oak’s sole run came in the first inning from Bruce, who paced the Tigers with two singles.
Hinshaw, Messinger, and Johnson each had a single.
Hinshaw recorded the loss, and Jake Echternach pitched relief, striking out four.
“We had four errors on the night,” Erickson said. “Only three of the 12 runs were earned. We continue to struggle making routine plays throughout an entire game.
“Our staff understands the potential with this group of players is very high once they gain the confidence on the mound, in the field, and at the plate.”
Atlantic
The Tigers lost in Atlantic 16-5 in five innings.
Messinger and Johnson pitched two innings each, combining for two walks and two strikeouts.
“We give Atlantic full credit for swinging the bats well tonight,” Erickson said. “We had a rough first inning in the field or this may have been a different ballgame. We answered back strong in the top of the third inning.”
The Tigers were held scoreless through the first two frames while Atlantic had 10 runs. In the top of the third, Red Oak batted in four runs and added the fifth run in the fourth inning.
Zac Guerra went two for three and scored two runs to pace the Tigers.
Echternach, Couse, and Bruce added one run each.
Messinger recorded the loss from the mound.
Girls
The Tigers had a 5-1 lead over Shenandoah, but the Fillies used a strong sixth inning to bring in five runs and take the lead.
The Fillies added another run in the seventh inning, and a Chloe Johnson homer, her fifth of the season, brought the Tigers to within one, but the Tigers were unable to regain the lead and fell 7-6.
Abraham Lincoln
The Tigers had a successful night at home against Abraham Lincoln, with a JV and varsity win.
The Tigers defeated the Lynx 9-4, and Welter recording the win.
Buntrock and Young led the team with three hits each, followed by M. Wendt and Kells with two apiece.
McCunn and Streicher each had a hit.
JV
“The night started off strong as Emma Bierbaum pitched well, and her defense backer her up well,” assistannt coach Kelli Schram said.

Creston
The Tigers fell 5-2 to Creston in conference action Friday.
C. Johnson led Red Oak with three hits, collecting two RBI.
McCunn had two singles and scored one run.
