Tigers score first win of season
COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Red Oak softball team picked up its first win of the season Thursday night as part of a doubleheader versus St. Albert.
The Tigers won game one of the doubleheader 11-6. Red Oak had a 5-4 lead through five innings thanks to two runs in the fifth.
They pulled away in the sixth and seventh inning by scoring a combined six runs, including four in the seventh.
St. Albert scored a run in the sixth and seventh, but it wasn’t enough.
Sarah Behrens, Kendra Hardy, Maranda Gowdy and Sydney Streicher all stepped up and had the big hits for Red Oak.
Hardy, Gowdy and Streicher each had two hits in the win.
Game two was the same score, 11-6, but the sides swapped spots as St. Albert prevented the sweep.
The Saintes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Red Oak tacked on two runs in the top of the third, but St. Albert stretched its lead thanks to five runs in the bottom half.
Shelbie Perez finished the game with two hits, including a double, while Streicher also had a two-hit game.
Clarinda 13, Red Oak 5
The Tigers began the week with a 13-5 loss on the road to Clarinda. Red Oak jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the first inning. The difference in the game was the fourth and fifth inning when Clarinda outscored Red Oak 9-2.
Sydney Esaias had two hits in the game to lead the Tigers.
Red Oak was back in action Monday when they took on Creston. Results weren’t available as of press time.
The Tigers are back home Tuesday night for a JV/varsity doubleheader versus Shenandoah. The action starts at 6 p.m. at the Red Oak Sports Complex.
Wednesday night, Red Oak makes up a varsity doubleheader that was postponed earlier this month when they face Lewis Central. The first game starts at 5:30 p.m.
Red Oak closes out the week with a doubleheader Friday night in Carroll versus Kuemper Catholic. The first game starts at 5:30 p.m.
