Topham qualifies for Foot Locker nationals race
Griswold cross country runner Rebekah Topham was one of 10 high school girls in the midwest to qualify for the 2013 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.
Topham qualified at a midwest regional in Kenosha, Wis.
The junior finished third in the race, running a time of 17:45. Only Kelcy Welch of Carmel, Ind. and Stephanie Jenks of Aurora, had faster times.
Topham now has a chance to win a national championship Dec. 14 at Morley Field in Balboa Park, located in San Diego.
The girls race will start at 9:15 a.m. pacific time (11:15 a.m. local time), with the boys race starting at 10 a.m. pacific (noon local time).
Runners from all across the country competed in the regional races to qualify for the national championship.
Regional races took place in Walnut, Calif., Charlotte, N.C. and Bronx, N.Y.
Topham enters the race fresh off winning her third straight individual cross country state title in October.
