Trojanettes take second at Griswold Girls meet

GRISWOLD—Essex finished second at last Tuesday's Griswold Girls Tiger Relays. The Trojanettes had a score of 108 points in the A division. Fremont-Mills won with a score of 120 points.

Several Essex track athletes walked away with first place victories. Naela Thornton had one of those highlights with a 100-meter hurdles win over A-H-S-T's Johnni Schueman. Sara Skalberg finished fifth in the same race.

Jasmine Glasgo had a big win in the 3,000-meter run, finishing a minute ahead of the rest of the field. Glasgo ran a time of 13:13.53.

Skylar Ross had the third individual win for Essex, claiming the long jump title with a jump of 15'6”. Ross edged out both Macy and Taryn Williams of Fremont-Mills.

In the relays, Essex had wins in the 4x100 and 4x800.

In the 4x100, the team of Thornton, Ross, Haley Fundermann and Kym Graham held off Fremont-Mills by a half second to win with a time of 56.63 seconds.

Fundermann was also in the 4x800, along with Seana Perkins, Steph McBride and Mariah Johnson, to win with a time of 11:23.34, a second faster than runner-up A-H-S-T.

The Trojanettes relay teams finished second in the shuttle hurdles and 4x400 and third in the 4x200, sprint and distance medleys.

Essex was scheduled to compete at the Fillie Relays in Shenandoah last Thursday, but the meet was postponed due to inclement weather. No make-up date has been announced.

Essex competed at the Stanton track meet Monday, but results weren’t available as of press time.
