Trojanettes third, Viqueens fourth at Corner meet

 The Essex Trojanettes picked up several wins during the Corner Conference meet last Tuesday in Tabor as they took third in the girls track meet.

Essex finished with 108 points, behind Fremont-Mills (151) and Sidney (116).

The Trojanettes finished ahead of Stanton, who took fourth with 91 points. East Mills was sixth with 39 points.

The Trojanettes scored their first conference title of the meet in the 4x800 when the team of Seana Perkins, Stephanie McBride, Amber Ohnmacht and Kym Graham ran an 11:29.09, defeating runner-up Nishnabotna by more than 16 seconds.

The Viqueens team of Amanda Yeager, Brandy Morison, Marcel Confer and Nicole Graham took sixth with 12:31.34.

Individually, Regan Burns picked up two conference titles in her respective field events, the shot put and the discus. In theshot put, Burns tossed 36’10.50,” beating out Molly Cunard of Heartland Christian.

Teammate Keegan Nelson was sixth with a throw of 31’5.” Erin DeKay of Stanton missed out on the top six by three inches (31’2”).

Burns beat out Cunard again in the discus as she threw 113’10”.

Essex had runner-up finishes from Stephanie McBride and Devan Gray in the 1,500 and 3,000.

McBride was second in the 1,500 (5:52.42), while Gray was third (6”09.72). Stanton’s Yeager took fourth with 6:09.96.

Gray was second for Essex in the 3,000 with a run of 13:21.76. Teammate Shea Jensen was fourth with 13:44.94.

The Viqueens picked up the bulk of their wins in the relay races.

Their first conference crown came in the shuttle hurdles when the team of Logan Wagg, Macy Elwood, Lauren Stephens and Carmen Subbert beat out Fremont-Mills by less than two-tenths of a second to run a time of 1:09.46.

East Mills’ team of Jessamie Maurer, Claire Huston, Sofie Roenquist and Jess Doyle took third with 1:21.39, while Essex’s team of Kendria Johnson, Hannah Stanley, Jordan Nelson and Sara Skalberg took fifth with 1:25.07.

Stanton picked up another win in the 4x200 when Avery Taylor, Elwood, Stephens and Moriah Kammerer ran a 1:55.54.

East Mills’ team of Huston, Zena Courtier, Brianna Smith and Kendra Croghan took second with 1:59.56.

The distance medley team for Stanton also won when Chelsea Weis, Ally Focht, Devin Druivenga and Bailey Foote had a nearly two second cushion over Fremont-Mills, running a time of 4:59.71. Essex was third (5:02.70), while East Mills took sixth (6:05.19).

Stanton’s last relay race title was the 4x100 when Taylor, Wagg, Elwood and Subbert beat Essex by nearly three seconds to run a 53.30.

The Trojanettes team featured Bethany Johnson, Ohnmacht, Graham and Skylar Ross as they ran 56.05. East Mills’ team of Courtier, Huston, Smith and Croghan finished third with 56.46.

Subbert gave Stanton its only individual conference title in the 100-meter hurdles when she ran 15.87 to beat out both Taryn Williams and Andrea McClary of Fremont-Mills.

Essex’s Jescenia Mosley (17.20) was fourth, while Wagg of Stanton was fifth and Maurer of East Mills was sixth.

The Viqueens had close individual finishes from Taylor in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. In both instances, Taylor was third, running 13.29 in the 100 and 27.52 in the 200.

Boys

It was East Mills’ day in the boys field as they won the team title with a score of 165, beating out Fremont-Mills. Stanton finished fifth with 37 points, while Essex was eighth with 14.

Travis Tupper had two individual wins for East Mills, claiming conference titles in both the 200 and 400-meter dash.

In the 200, Tupper beat out Drake Stickler of Sidney to run 22.82, while in the 400, he ran a 52.49 to lead by more than a second over runner-up Andrew Welch of Nishnabotna. East Mills’ Noah Meyer was third in the 400 with 55.26.

Sam Rew and Michael Story won conference titles in field events. Rew won in the high jump as he jumped 6.’

Teammate Keegan Wederquist was fourth with 5’6,” while Stanton’s Cade Confer was fifth with 5’4”.

Story won in long jump, leaping 18’3”. Teammate Gabe Barney was fifth with 17’1.75.”

The Wolverines won two relay races. The first came in the shuttle hurdles when Wederquist, Rew, Ben Christensen and Chandler Foss ran 1:06.21, beating out Fremont-Mills. Stanton’s team of Confer, David Sorensen, Trevor Wood and Kyle Peterson took third with 1:14.62.

The other East Mills win came in the 4x100 when Colton Story, Michael Story, Cavin Darnold and Colby Jennings won with 45.09.

Stanton’s team of Wood, Confer, Peterson and Chris Jones took fourth with 49.40.

Essex’s team of Tucker Scott, Jacob Ohnmacht, Cody McClintock and Ian Isaacson was fifth with 49.74.

Stanton had one conference title individually as Alex Becthold claimed it in the discus. Becthold won with a throw of 144’9.”

Teammate Dustin Isaacson was fourth with 117’10.”

Essex didn’t have any conference champions.

Their best finish came in the distance medley when the team of Scott, Ohnamcht, Isaacson and McClintock finished third with 4:07.50.

All the area teams will be in action Thursday as they try to qualify for the state meet in Des Moines.

Stanton, Essex and East Mills will be among the teams at districts, which takes place at 4 p.m. in Underwood.
