Trojanettes week ends with win over HC

FARRAGUT — The Essex Trojanettes split their two games in their first week back following the holiday break.

Essex lost Friday night on the road against the Nishnabotna Blue Devils, 51-34. Freshmen Kym Graham and Kysa McClarnon both scored nine points to lead Essex. Graham was also the team’s leading rebounder, finishing with 16 (season high), including five off the offensive glass.

Seana Perkins scored seven points, while Cheyana Brownfield scored six for the Trojanettes.

For Nishnabotna, Alexia Blank was the team’s leading scorer, finishing with 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting. The Blue Devils recorded 18 blocks against Essex, with Jody Shough responsible for 12 of them, which was a season high.

Essex did pick up the win last Thursday against new conference team Heartland Christian, in Council Bluffs.

Brownfield had a season best for the Trojanettes, scoring 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds (five offensive).

Seana Perkins scored 14 points and had five rebounds, three assists and four steals for Essex. The Trojanettes stole the ball 19 times from Heartland Christian. Tessie Lindburg recorded the most steals with five.

The Trojanettes are now 4-5 for the season. They play two home games this week, which starts Tuesday when they take on the Sidney Cowgirls. On Friday night, they’ll play the Villisca Blue Jays.
