Trojannettes volleyball comes back to knock off Fremont-Mills

ESSEX — The Essex Trojannettes came from two games down to defeat the Fremont-Mills Knights in volleyball action last Tuesday.

Fremont-Mills won the first two games 25-19 and 25-20. Essex kept the match going by winning the third game 25-16 and the fourth game 25-22.

The Trojannettes led the tiebreaker fifth game 11-4. However, the Knights got back into the game and forced Essex to score the extra point, winning the game 16-14, and taking the match 3-2.

Essex had big matches from their more veteran players, Naela Thornton, Tessie Lindburg and Haley Fundermann.

Fundermann in particular had 11 kills out of 27 attempts with 21 digs and five serving aces.

Fundermann is currently fifth in the Corner Conference in digs with 42.

The Trojannettes had a total of 21 serving aces for the match.
Thornton and freshman Kym Graham also had five serving aces.

Thornton also finished with seven kills and had three blocks (all solo).
Seana Perkins was responsible for 13 of Essex's 31 assists.

For Fremont-Mills, Macy Williams led the way with 11 kills. Kendall Fichter had 18 assists and four serving aces.

With the win, Essex is now 2-4-1 for the season.

Their next match will be Tuesday night when they head to Clarinda to take on Clarinda Academy.

On Thursday, the Trojannettes will be home to take on the East Mills Wolverines.
