Van M. Pike, Jr., 88

Van M. Pike, Jr, 88, Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 13, 2013, at Northbrook Manor Care Center.

Van was born March 7, 1925, in Red Oak, the beloved son of Anna and Van M. Pike, Sr. Van attended school in Red Oak, served in the Air Force and the Army in WWII and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids.

He married Mary E. Henkle July 11, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed briefly at Smulekoffs and at Perpetual Savings and Loan in Cedar Rapids before going to work for International Harvester (now Navistar) in 1953. He retired from Navistar in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and his son, Ric.

Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Patricia Pike of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Per Van’s wishes no services will be held.  Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Unity Point Hospice in Van’s honor.
