Vikings advance to Corner quarterfinals

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Stanton Vikings advanced to the quarterfinals of the Corner Conference Tournament after they defeated Heartland Christian 60-40 Saturday night.

Jeff Marshall scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds in the Vikings win.
David Sorensen also had a big game as he scored 18 points.

The Vikings face the task of playing the top seeded Sidney Cowboys Tuesday night in College Springs. The game starts at 6:15 p.m.

Stanton’s win over Heartland Christian comes after they lost Friday night at home to Clarinda Academy 38-30.

The difference in the game was the fourth quarter, when Clarinda Academy outscored Stanton 14-7.

The Vikings had a 19-18 lead at halftime, but Clarinda Academy led by the end of the third quarter.

Should Stanton win, they would play the winner of South Page and Fremont-Mills Thursday night in the semifinals at Sidney.

The championship and consolation games will take place in Tabor Saturday night.

Stanton 49, Nishnabotna 40

The Vikings snapped a three-game losing skid with their win against Nishnabotna in Farragut last Tuesday.

Stanton was able to maintain a lead through the first three quarters. The Blue Devils tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but fell short.

Cade Confer had a big night for Stanton, scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Marshall finished his night with a double-double, scoring 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting with 18 rebounds. Kyle Peterson and Collin Strickland each scored eight points in the win against Nishnabotna.
