Vikings drop to 3-3 on season with OT loss
SIDNEY — The Stanton Vikings are 3-3 for the season following their loss Friday night against Sidney.
Stanton lost the game 53-48 in overtime. The Vikings had the 25-18 halftime lead, but Sidney came back and force the overtime period.
Brady Johnson scored 14 points, while Kyle Peterson had 12 and Peter Sorensen finished with 10.
Stanton 66, Nishnabotna 46
Stanton scored its first win of the week last Thursday on the road against the Blue Devils.
David Sorensen scored a career-high 25 points on the way to a Viking victory. Sorensen was 9-for-19 from the field, including 5-for-11 from three-point range. The sophomore guard also had five rebounds and two steals.
The Vikings took the 20-11 lead, which soon was 36-27 at halftime. Stanton stayed ahead, scoring 30 second half points to Nishnabotna’s 19.
Kyle Peterson was the only other Stanton player with double-digit points as he scored 10 in the win. Peterson also had six steals and three assists.
Alex Becthold scored nine points on 4-for-6 shooting with eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Heartland Christian 57, Stanton 55
The rally for Stanton fell short late as the Vikings lost their only home game, last Tuesday.
Stanton jumped out to a 17-11 lead after one quarter. Heartland Christian closed the gap, but trailed 31-30 at halftime.
The Eagles rallied in the third quarter, outscoring Stanton 15-8 as they took the lead.
Stanton fought back, but Heartland Christian held on to give the Vikings their first conference loss this season.
Three players had double-digit points, including David Sorensen, who had 19 points with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Peter Sorensen had 16 points, along with seven rebounds.
Johnson had the other double-digit scoring night, recording 12 points and recording six assists and two blocks.
Becthold and Peterson each scored four points for Stanton.
The Vikings are home Tuesday night to take on Clarinda Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., after the girls game. Friday night is Stanton’s last game before the holiday break. Stanton travels to Malvern to play East Mills. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
