Villisca beats Stanton, loses to Sidney
VILLISCA — The Villisca Blue Jays split their week against Corner Conference baseball foes, last week.
Friday, Villisca lost to the Sidney Cowboys, 8-5. The difference in the game was the fourth inning when the Cowboys scored six runs to take a 8-3 lead. Villisca scored two more runs in the next inning, but the scoring stopped there.
Max Mauderly was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and a run batted in. Travis Herzberg was the only other Blue Jay to have multiple hits in the game. Herzberg was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.
Zack Adcock and Austin Sorensen scored the other two runs for the Blue Jays.
Last Tuesday, Villisca defeated Stanton in nine innings, 13-10.
Villisca scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 13-8 lead. Stanton scored two more in the bottom half of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough.
Villisca had an 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh when the Vikings scored seven runs to force the game into extra innings.
Villisca had eight hits in the game, but was walked 16 times.
Herzberg, Damon Sunderman and Manley Schipansky were each walked three times.
Adcock had the lone multi-hit game as he was 3-for-6 at the plate with a double and two runs scored.
Villisca hits the road Tuesday to play Clarinda Academy. Friday, they’ll be home to play Fremont Mills and they’ll be on the road once more Friday to face East Mills.
Saturday, Villisca competes at the Griswold Tournament.
