Villisca, Stanton, East Mills boys compete at Wolverine Relays

Chris Schaaf won the high jump and the Bluejays’ 4x800-meter relay team captured first place as Villisca captured the runner-up spot at Thursday’s Wolverine Relays at East Mills High School.

            In addition to Schaaf, Montgomery County-area athletes capturing individual titles at the meet were Stanton’s Alex Whigham in the long jump and Matt Pruss in the 1,600-meter run and Marcus Birt of Essex in the 110-meter hurdles. Whigham captured second place in the high jump and Birt was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles. Villisca’s Eli Cordon landed second in the shot.

            Third-place finishes were recorded by Steven Fitzwater of Villisca in the discus, Sawyer Johannes of Villisca in the 400 hurdles, Nathan Day of East Mills in the 100-meter dash, Jake Doyle of East Mills in the 1,600-meter run, Chase Ducket of Essex in the 110-meter hurdles and Matt Pruss of Stanton in the 800-meter run.

            Villisca won the 4x800-meter relay, while Stanton claimed the shuttle hurdle and East Mills finished first in the 4x200.
